Charity offers health centre to Nongowa Chiefdom

Nyanyahun-Buima in Konia Kpendebu section in Nongowa Chiefdom Kenema district has got a new community Health Centre, constructed by a charity Christian-Delphian Bible Mission.  

Addressing the residents at the formal commissioning of the centre on 26th February 2022, the Chairman Kenema District Council, Mohamed Amodu Sesay commended the Christian organisation for complementing the government’s efforts in the health sector.  He said the community was badly affected by the Ebola epidemic in 2014 with many lives lost and believed the construction of a new health facility is of great importance to the people and the local council.

He said some communities still face health challenges and that the council will work with the District Health Management Team and other development partners to ensure service delivery to the people of Kenema district.

He described the mission’s intervention as timely and assured of the council’s commitment to working with the charity in taking development to the people.

 “As a local council, we are there to ensure developmental projects reach our people and we will always work with partners to attain that vision,’’ Sesay said.

 He encouraged the people to take total ownership of the facility and make use of it in the best possible way.  In his statement, District Medical officer Kenema, Dr Donald Samuel Grant said the construction of the modern health centre has been part of the determination in improving the health system in the Kenema district and therefore thanked the Christian organization for such an infrastructure.

He said maternal mortality is one of the challenging issues that hinder the country’s human development index and therefore cautioned women against home delivery.

Dr Grant stated that the centre would help the community in reducing some of the health problems faced within their environment and appealed to the community to work with the staff assigned to the health facility.

“All these health centres are there to ensure that women do not give birth at home, and for Traditional Birth Attendants to refer cases to the health facilities on time’’, Dr Grant pointed out.

The Liaison officer for Christian -Delphian Bible Mission Sierra Leone Hostis Josiah said they were available to secure funds from Agape International Organization to undertake the construction of the health centre for the people of Nyahun-Buima based on their assessment that identified the felt need of the people.

He said as a non-governmental organization they do embark on providing humanitarian services to people in difficult circumstances which can be a way of propagating the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Youth leader Sandi Blango commended the mission for selecting their community for a health infrastructure that will ease the discomfort women and children went through in accessing medical treatment, especially during the rainy season.

 Section Chief of Konia Kpandebu Amara Soko Musa thanked the Christian –Delphian Bible Mission for considering their community with the health facility and advised the community to take proper care of the building so it can serve its intended purposes.

The previous health facility there was such in a very dilapidated state, it was said to be unfit for pregnant women in labour.
