By Politico Staff

The Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL) on the 2nd July 2021 issued out a press release to all heads of churches and their leaders regarding the announcement made by President Julius Maada Bio on the 1st July 2021, in which the President outlined some stringent measures to curb the third wave of the coronavirus, including a one month ban on congregational worship in mosques and churches.

According to the release, the suspension of congregational worship for the next one month was a decision in which CCSL leaders were not consulted. The council said consultation is taking place with other religious organizations as to how they can work together to address the issue.

Meanwhile, CCSL has called on all their congregations and worshippers to be patient and abide by the measures put by the government. The release further advised all and sundry to practice all precautionary COVID-19 measures.

In addtion, they called on all to pray for an end to the pandemic, so people could return to their normal ways of life. The Council of Churches Sierra Leone (CCSL) was founded in 1924 and is now an umbrella organization of seventeen churches and ten affiliates.
