Preliminary investigations have continued before Magistrate Hannah Bonnie in Freetown into a one count charge of murder against Mohamed Sesay, who is alleged to have murdered one Allieu Sesay, his friend.
Led in evidence by Police Prosecutor Sergeant 9155 D. McCarthy on Wednesday 30th September 2020, Mohamed M. Sesay, a pupil of Government Rokel Secondary School and the younger brother to the deceased, recognized the accused. He recalled the 11th August 2020, at a time he was inside a tailor shop closer to his residence and where he normally went to study, when he heard the voice of their mother calling for help saying, someone was killing her son. He said he rushed to the scene and met their mother, who was pointing at the accused and saying that he had been stabbing Alieu Sesay.
The third prosecution witness added that he immediately opened the door and saw the accused with two knives held in both hands.
The witness recalled that the first sentence the accused made in his presence was: “I had promised you (referring to Alieu Sesay who was lying on the ground) that I will kill you, and today I will do it in the presence of your mother”.
He told the court that he saw first-hand the accused stabbed the victim on the forehead.
“At that point, my mum shouted above her voice as she was desperately calling for help and I became very much afraid witnessing such a scene” he added.
He said: “He continued to stab my brother, even when he tried to escape from him, he did not allow us to have access to him, and the attack continued. Even when my brother was attempting to retreat to a safer place, the accused was still advancing towards him,”.
The witness added that the victim turned to face his aggressor in an attempt to seize the knives from him, but there was little strength left in him. His assailant then sat on him and stabbed him multiple times.
He told the court that when the accused realised that his brother was helpless and covered in his own blood, he got up and turned to their mother and said: “I am ready to run his jail term and nothing else will come out of it.”
Sesay said they then took his brother to the Connaught hospital for treatment, and after later returning from making statements to the Police the same day, he went to the hospital again, only to find the remains of his brother wrapped in a cloth, with one of the nurses confirming to him that he had passed away.
The Police allege that the accused person on 11th August 2020, at Mountain Cut in the Western Area of Freetown, murdered Alieu Sesay.
The accused person has been remanded in custody and the matter adjourned to 7th October.
