The Bo district Coronavirus Response Centre Coordinator has in an engagement with the national response body, NaCOVERC said they have been robustly meeting residents across the district on the new COVID -19 preventive measures announced by President Julius Maada Bio and the need for the people to be vaccinated but that insufficient vaccines is a challenge.
David Fortune called on the national COVID -19 response body to ensure that vaccines were available for the population to access.
Speaking at the event, PC Desmond Kargobai said he has been part of the group monitoring various chiefdoms in the district and that they have realized that there was need for more awareness-raising to ensure that the people adhere to the convid-19 regulations.
In response, the Public Health National Emergency Communication Pillar Lead said President Bio has requested for more vaccines to be brought into the country. Harold Thomas said 92,000 doses of Astrazeneca vaccine will be in the country in August 2021. He said that they’re also expecting Sinopharm, Johnson & Johnson and others. He said Johnson & Johnson vaccines will be rolled out in rural sittings.
In addition, Thomas said they're seeking funds from World Bank for COVID vaccination and that their partners will “hopefully” come in to help with radio discussion programmes in the regions.
He added that the nation was now in the third wave of coronavirus and that science has proven that vaccinated persons stand a better chance when they have the virus than those who are not vaccinated and urged the people to take vaccination seriously.
