The Bo District Coronavirus Response Centre has on Monday 27th September 2021 removed 85 Support staff from the response team. This according to the centre’s Coordinator, David Fortune was due to the reduction in the workload as a result of fewer COVID-19 confirmed cases in the district.
Speaking at a certification and the laying-off ceremony of the affected staff, he said the action to cut down the workforce is informed by scientific data and consistent with low caseloads recorded daily which spirals a decrease in the positivity ratio.
While he reaffirmed commitments to have some staff retained including the core staff, Fortune endeared the outgoing staff to always be on the alert should there be a major spike which would require their expertise.
He commended the commitments of all support staff who through thick and thin availed their unflinching support to cut the chain of new transmissions and also the just concluded surge operations for the Covid vaccines.
Senior members of the response team including the Social Mobilization Pillar Lead, Hon. Eric Jumu, Field Monitor, Rtd. Major Prince Kombay, Quarantine Manager, Wiston Songo, Psychosocial Pillar Lead, Fatmata Yeama Iddriss among others also commended the departing staff for their untiring efforts during the peak of the third wave of the Indian variant. They also appealed to the national response centre (NaCOVERC) to expedite outstanding payments to those staff.
The redundant staff expressed gratitude for the opportunity accorded them to serve their country during the peak of the Coronavirus pandemic and urged management to speedily settle their outstanding claims.
With initial staff strength of over 400 which has been squeezed to 34, a report from the Bo DiCoverc Public Relations unit, says it is possible that more would soon follow. Certification ceremony for all staff climaxed the ceremony.
Bo District has 149 confirmed cumulative cases with 7 deaths since the outbreak of the virus in the country.
