BIG BLOW FOR JOHANSEN AHEAD OF SLFA CONGRESS

By Zainab Joaque

The Executive Committee of the Sierra Leone Football Association has suffered a major setback with just a week to its ordinary congress in the northern city of Makeni. A meeting chaired by the Secretary to the President Emmanuel Osho-Coker at State House on Monday, concluded with the SLFA being told to reverse its suspension of all delegates, clubs and regional associations from participation at the congress.

The SLFA had suspended the Southern Region Football Association, East End Lions Football Club and several football administrators on allegations of match-fixing and other issues. Many analysts had suggested that the suspensions would derail the congress.

According to a release issued by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) last evening stated that the SLFA has agreed for its President Dr. Patrick Coker, to chair the closed session of the congress with sport minister Paul Kamara making a statement at the opening ceremony.

Our sources say the controversially-elected SLFA president Isha Johansen was not at the meeting. Her representative reported that she couldn't be present because she had urgent family matters to attend to.

A group of football administrators known as the stakeholders who are opposed to the leadership of Isha Johansen had indicated recently that they would ask the Executive Committee to subject itself to a vote of no confidence at the start of the congress.
