The Africa Young Voices (AYV) television is now on Direct Satellite Television (DSTV) managed by Multi-Choice Company based in South Africa. The formal events to mark the commencement of such a development were held in Freetown on Friday 17 September 2021.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of AYV Media Empire Anthony Navo urged all Sierra Leoneans, especially content creators to use the AYV channel on DSTV to sell Sierra Leone to Africa.
Navo who was addressing a gathering at the media complex said AYV being on DSTV is a milestone not only for the station but also for Sierra Leone. He revealed that they have been given multicultural license and it was therefore important for every content creator to use the platform to showcase the country’s rich culture and beautiful sites to Africa. He encouraged Sierra Leoneans to come on board and stated he has received 500 songs from artists who want their songs to be aired. Navo said this is an opportunity for Sierra Leonean artists to showcase their talent in order to attract international collaboration.
He said everyone should put aside their differences in order to put the country in a better limelight.
Speaking on the requirements one needs to meet for contents to be aired, Navo explained that he as the CEO of AYV cannot authorise for a content to be aired, noting that the content is sent via email to DSTV South Africa where the Quality Control (QC) would vet the content to see whether it meets DSTV’s standard. He further explained that the content that is been aired presently during the testing phase has been sent over two months ago, and that the QC gave them feedback emphasising need for improvement on sound, graphics etc. He re-emphasised that one should email one’s content at least a month prior to broadcast.
The CEO Multi-choice Sierra Leone Dr. Adonis Aboud said Multi Choice is very keen about content quality now that Sierra Leone is on DSTV.
He said the country now has a platform to export contents and urged for attention on tourism, saying revealing the country’s beauty will attract tourists.
Aboud stated that AYV being on DSTV is a dream come true, because Navo had told him some years back about his dream of establishing an empire.
The Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Africell Joe Abass Bangura congratulated Navo and team for such achievements. He said AYV and Africell have co-produced some of high quality and most watched entertainment shows in the country, saying the platform will bring “exposure and respectability to the entertainment industry in Sierra Leone”.
When asked the question of whether AYV on DSTV has enough contents to feed the viewers, Managing Director of AYV Dr. Ezekiel Duramany Lakkoh said the station is presently sponsoring content generators, and encouraged other people to also bring in their contents.
The AYV Channel 399 on DSTV was then officially announced. The programme ended with a tour of the different studios where shows will be hosted for the new channel on DSTV.
