The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has on Friday 28th May 2021 ended a day’s presentation and training on the use of compliance Sanction Management and Enforcement Procedure Handbook with officials of Ministries Department and Agencies (MDAs) in Bo.
Making a presentation, Samson Saidu Head of Compliance Sanction Management at the ACC said in 2020, the commission with the participation of 32 MDAs put together a handbook with participation of 32 MDAS,that was later reviewed.
Saidu said that the reports have shown that compliance level is low and described the situation as worrisome.
He said even though there are MDAs who are below average, there are others who are doing well. He added that they will continue to engage MDAS especially those who are below the passing mark, and that before the year ends, they'll meet all the 24 MDAs.
Ibrahim Sorie Kamara from the monitoring and compliance unit at the ACC said Sec 8 (1) of ACC Act of 2008 as amended in 2021 talks about the responsibilities of MDAs to follow instructions.
He said the ACC’s yearly recommendations should be part of the MDAs plan and the staff of the different MDAs should know about it so they can all work towards achieving it.
Patrick Martin George, Deputy Director Corruption Prevention ACC, said they have toured the country and that Bo is the last place to engage Local council officials and MDAs on prevention of Corruption.
He said their work at the commission is not all about prosecution and indictments but that prevention is very key in their work. He pleaded with MDAS and local councils to take the recommendations for the good of the country.
Participants present pleaded with the ACC for support and for salary harmonization as their salaries are low even though they have higher qualifications like their colleagues within the other government institutions.
The Prevention Compliance Sanctions Management and Enforcement Procedure Handbook was shared to MDAs and local councils as a guide to ensure that corruption is prevented.
