ACC investigates journalist for "impersonation"

Gibril Gottor

Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is presently investigating a journalist suspected of impersonating an ACC officer.

Journalist Gibril Gottor, who is presently in detention at an unknown location, was arrested over the weekend in Kambia.

Alhassan Kargbo, public relations officer of the ACC, said Gottor was allegedly caught soliciting advantage, in contravention of the Anti Corruption Act. He said the journalist was subsequently brought to Freetown.

The ACC spokesman would not comment on the matter any further, saying details of the case were yet to formally reach his desk. He however said the anti graft agency was presently investigating the matter and that they would issue a press release at the end of their investigations.

As at now, Kargbo further revealed, Gottor was in detention at one of the police stations in the country, but he refused to disclose which station. He said the matter was purely an ACC matter but that the suspect had to be kept in police detention because they have no holding cell.

Kelvin Lewis, president of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists, would not make any comment on the matter either, except that as an association they were following up on its progress.
