Justice Michael Mamie has on the 2nd July 2021 imprisoned one Alhassan Sesay to 5 years imprisonment at the Approved School for sexually penetrating a class 4 pupil, his ‘lover’.
Sesay is said to have in sometime in July 2020 had sexual intercourse with the underage girl at his residence in Eastern Freetown and was therefore charged with Section 19 of the Sexual Offences Act No. 12 of 2012 as amended in 2019.
The victim, a primary school pupil, had told the court that she was in a relationship with the accused and that at around 10 in the night her mother, had sent her to take food to a woman called Mariatu.
She said it was during that process that the accused took her into a secluded place and solicited sex from her. The girl explained how he told the accused she had never had sex before but the accused forcibly had intercourse with her.
She said she bled which prompted relatives of the accused to attempt in stopping the bleeding without success. She was later taken to the police station where she made statements on the 21st July 2020 and her father did likewise on the same date.
Counsel for the accused, M. Kamara pleaded to the judge for mercy on the basis that the accused is a juvenile and a first-time offender. He said the accused had also pleaded guilty and had not wasted the time of the court.
Justice Mamie said that he was being magnanimous with the accused by offering him the minimum punishment for the crime he was being arraigned for. He advised the accused to learn from his lessons and better his ways after serving his time at the Approved School in Wellington, reserved for underage convicts.
