Police in Falaba are investigating 30-year-old Gibril Komba Saffa Conteh popularly known as Gibo, a timber Logger for allegedly penetrating a 5-year-old class 1 pupil at Mankalia Kiridu in Delmandugu Chiefdom, Falaba District.
Speaking to Politico, the father of the girl said the mother left their daughter in the care of her grandmother while she went to the farm. He said it was in her absence and upon the girl’s return from school that Conteh came to their place and took both the girl and her sister with him to his house.
He said his wife noticed that something had gone wrong with her child when was bathing the child in the evening. According to him, she saw blood in the girl’s underwear and realized that she was still bleeding and “it was at this point that the little girl explained what the suspect had done to her”.
The father said he reported the incident to the section Chief of Mankalia Momorie Marah who ordered some youths in the absence of the police in the community to arrest Gibbo on his return from the bush while they took the child to a Community Health Center in Falaba.
He said the nurse in charge of the Peripheral Health Unit (PHU) also noted that the victim was bleeding and that it was the nurse that then communicated to the police at Bendukura for the matter to be investigated while his daughter was admitted to hospital and was now in a critical condition.
The police Solomon Sesay attached to the Family Support Unit (FSU) in Falaba refused to speak to Politico on the issue despite several phone calls, text messages, and visit to his office.
