A 13-year old girl, Satta Kawa was allegedly shot with a locally made gun on the 18th June, 2024 at Ngegbema in Tunkia Chiefdom, Kenema district by a 14 -year -old boy Alie Thaohid Kamara.
According to police media officer in Kenema, Inspector Prince Bernad Jayboi Kamara, the mother of the victim Jenneh Sillah reported the matter to the police at Ngebema that her daughter was shot in the upper left shoulder. The police immediately rushed to the crime scene and referred the matter to Kenema for medical attention.
He said that upon filing the report, police issued a medical request form on behalf of the victim, urging immediate medical attention at the Rainbo center at the Kenema government hospital.
After the police had obtained statements from the victim and the mother, subsequently, the 14-years-old suspect was arrested and brought to Kenema and he is currently helping the police with the investigation. During the investigation police at the regional criminal investigation department did a voluntary cautioned statement from the suspect.
According to the police investigation, the suspect’s father, Thaohid Kamara an ex- military personnel is also helping the police with investigations for unlawful possession of the said shot gun.
In another development, Police in Kenema also arrested one Mohamed Habib Bao of 24 Dama through the police mobile check point on Thursday 29th June, 2024 for possession of a loaded single barrel pistol, two single barrel cartridges, two small phones, two table knives and the sum of 620 Leones.
According to the Regional Media officer, the Local Unit Commander Kenema division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Edison Vandi said the arrest is a result of increased mobile check points due to continuous armed robbery in the municipality.
The Media officer stated that the suspect, Mohamed Habib Bao is currently being held in detention at Kenema police division for investigation and police have called on citizens to pass on reliable information in connection to the personal life of the suspect within the community while they probe the matter further.
Meanwhile both matters have been transferred to Freetown for ballistic specialist examination while all the suspects remain under custody as investigations continue.
