Police at the East-end Police Division in Freetown are investigating the death of 19-year-old Joseph Wusu Kabia Junior, an alleged ‘Kush smoker’ who is alleged to have been beaten to death at the ‘Fen-Fen corner’ community between Fourah Bay Road and Guard Street on the 29th February, 2024.
Explaining while in tears, father of the deceased, Joseph Wusu Kabia noted that he last saw his son three days before being informed that he had been killed. He further explained that based on the information he received, the Chairman together with the Chairlady of that community organized a team of boys to bathe all “filthy Kush smokers” forcefully and to be beaten if they resist.
The Information Officer of East End Police Division, Inspector Alimamy Ahmed Deen Conteh told Politico that the remains of the late man have been conveyed to the Connaught morgue for autopsy examination and that the matter is under investigation.
He encouraged people to refrain from the act of beating “Kush smokers” which he said is not the appropriate measure. He also urged community stakeholders to partner with the police in sensitizing the youth to abstain from the use of harmful drugs especially ‘Kush.’
