Assistant physician, Mustapha Kemoh, at the Yangadie Memorial Hospital in the east of Freetown has confirmed he is currently treating a 16-year old junior secondary school leaving (BECE) pupil of the Municipal Secondary School for gunshot wounds.

Mariama Liscandry was yesterday hospitalized after a stray bullet allegedly resulting from police attempt to crackdown on violent pupils following the death, on Tuesday, of a pupil of the Ansarul Islamic Secondary School.

The victim told Politico that she was at the Peace Market at Ferry Junction helping her parents when she heard gunshot sounds and ran into their room.

“While I was inside heard a loud sound on the door and later felt sharp pain in my leg. Before I knew it blood was oozingfrom my right leg”, she said, adding that she was then taken hospital by her parents.

The physician who treated her confirmed the wound was as a result of a gunshot she sustained butsaid the bullet did not affect the bone.

“We had to give about 16 stitches to the affected area before the bleeding could ease”, he said, adding that he was familiar with such cases.

Operations officer at the scene, Superintendent Abu Sesay, said the youth had attacked them from all angles and they were left with no option but to fire teargas canisters to disperse the irate youths.

He assured that they would do all they could to ensure that they put the situation under control.

He could not comment on the victim alleged to have been wounded by gunshots and could confirm whether live rounds were shot.

Meanwhile the remains, of the Ansarul pupil killed three days ago when the clash between pupils and some traders at Guard Street started, had been taken for burial to Masimera in the Pot Loko District by police and the minister of youth affairs.
